Athens plan unfolding

During the Peloponnesian War, Athens plan was starting be put into action to destroy Sparta, an enemy Greek city-state. All was well with Athens until plague hit, killing over 1/3 of the population at the time. The biggest toll the plague brought was the death of the cities figure head, Pericles, leaving him ill for 6 months. Pericles, Athens ruler through the war, died in 429 B.C. which had a great effect on the war and which led to Sparta being victorious. Pericles had plans to revamp Athens and to strengthen in from the inside out that he did not get to fulfill.
