There were terrible things that the Kings and their families did to stay in power. Family members killed other family members to steal power. It was very corrupt and the royal families were tyrants to the Roman people. The people were eventually able to get rid of Kings for many centuries. There were so many crazy things happening in the government that the people got tired of and overthrew.
The Patricians dominated the government. They had all the money and power. the Plebians had no rights. They refused to serve in the military until things became more even and they had written laws. They were written down as The Twelve Tables. The laws were posted in public and they had elected officials called tribunes. The U.S got alot of it's rules for government from the ancient Romans. Both have a democracy with elected officials, both have a Senate. The U.S modeled it's 3 branches of government after Rome. We have executive, legislative, and judicial branches like ancient Rome set up. We both have legal codes, ancient Rome had the twelve tables and we have the Bill of Rights.
