Cyber 26 The Empire from May 18

  • lower classes were causing problems with the Republic
  • huge gap between rich and poor classes
  • lots of slaves worked for the rich
  • former soldiers couldn't find work
  • Tiberius and Gaius were brothers who tried to help the poor
  • they gave land to the poor farmers and spoke out against the Senators
  • Senators felt threatened by them and they were both eventually killed
  • the military broke down and Civil War broke out
  • Julius Caesar became military leader
  • he joined wealthy Roman Crassus and a general named Pompey
  • they were known as triumvirate
  • Caesar was successful popular leader and he was named dictator for life
  • he did alot of good things for the citizens
  • people started to fear his power
  • March 15 44BC he was stabbed by Brutus and Cassius
  • another civil war broke out after he was killed and Roman Republic was destroyed
  • second triumvirate was Marc Antony, Octavian, Lepidius. it lasted 10 years
  • after fighting Octavian became ruler-changed his name to Augustus
  • Rome was at peace for 200 years it was called Pax Roman=Roman Peace
  • agriculture was most important industry
  • 90% of people were farmers
  • complex and vast trading with other countries
  • built roads to trade
  • Romans were focused on discipline, strength, and loyalty
  • slaves were important to the economy, 1/3 were slaves
  • government and religion were linked
  • worshiped many gods and goddesses
  • they used free games and gladiator races to distract the public
  • Christianity emerged in Rome in the Pax Romana

A movie i recently watched was Harry potter and the deathly Hallows 2, it relates to an Ancient Greek tragedy because the main character dies in the end. 3.
