test

Today we took a test, I thought i was some what well prepared for it. Some parts that were more difficult were the mapping part and the different dates that had to be memorized I do not think I got the score i would have hoped for, but next time I know to go straight off of the slides to study

Test prep

Today we prepped for the upcoming test about Greece, I think i will get an okay grade because I feel like I know the information pretty well. I will talk more about how i thought the test went in tomorrows blog.

Draconian

Today we talked about the draconian code and if/how we could implement it in today. The draconian law is pretty much that every crime no matter the level of seriousness will have the punishment of death. This is to deter the citizens from committing any crime no matter the size. Personally i think we should not implement it in todays judicial system because I feel if you kill someone, you should just get life in prison because why take another life away when there has already been one death.

Early Greek democracy

A wise man named perciles led Athens for much of the golden age A skillfull politican and inspiring leader He had 3 goals, to strengthen Athenian Democracy, to hold and strengthen the empire and to glorify athens Pericles increased the number of public officials who were paid on salaries Direct democracy- a form of government when the citizens rule directly and not through a representative Athenians and Spartans go to war Peloponnesian war Athens had the stronger navy and Sparta had the stronger army and the location of the war meant it could not easily be fought on sea. Pericles plan was to bring the fight out to the sea so he could strike In the second year of the war disaster struck as Athens had a plague that killed 1/3 of the population, includin Perciles Sparta gained Victory in 415 B.C Athens sent a army more than 20,000 soldiers to the islnd of Sicily, they planned to to destroy one of Sparta wealtiest allies, Syracuse..........

polis:  fundamental political unit, made up of a city and the surrounding countryside monarchy:  rule by a single person (a king) aristocracy:  rule by a small group of noble and very rich, landowning families oligarchy:  wealthy groups, dissatisfied with aristocratic rule, who seized power tyrant:  powerful individual who seized control the aristocrats attended symposiums, meetings where men would drink wine and  listen to poetry they could also watch performances from dancers
temperatures usually ranged from mid 40s in the winter to low 80s in the summeralthough it could get hot in the summer Greek diet consists of grains grapes olives and fish they had a lack of resources  until the 19th century most historians thought it was fictional because gods and goddesses got involved in the stories Homer lived at the end of the dark ages where nothing was written down it is believed by some that Homer himself is fiction and part of a story

Rule and order in Greek City - states By 750 B.C. the polis was the fundamental political unit in ancient Greece. Most city states controlled 50-500 square miles of territory Tyrants seize power were looked at as leaders who would work for the interests of ordinary people The first step of democracy in Athens was when a noble man took power, Draco made death a punishment for almost every crime Sparta builds a military state Located in southern Greece 725 B.C. Today the last of everyone made up the tests so we went back to taking notes and talking about. we took notes on the culture and religions today, I ddi not bring my book home si I will add the notes to tomorrows blog.

monday class

Half the class was absent so today everyone made up the blogs they missed and the people that missed the quiz are studying for tomorrow, I have my blogs up to date so here are egypt notes Geography of Egypt- The Nile flows northward across Africa for over 4,100 miles, making it the longest river in the world. Gift of the Nile- Yearly flooding brought rich soil called silt which the Egyptians would pick up before the sun dried it. Environmental challenges- Egyptians were lucky because the Nile was like clockwork on when it would flood as where the Tigris and Euphrates were unpredictable for flooding.
